Listening and hearing

“Hearing is a physical ability while listening is a skill. Listening skills allow one to make sense of and understand what another person is saying. In other words, listening skills allow you to understand what someone is “talking about”. – About.com

Recently I’ve noticed a trend of people thinking that they’re listening (or reading) when they’re just hearing (or seeing) what you’ve said (or written).

Since the Internet launched people have started to communicate socially even more but in exchange they’ve lost their listening and reading skills.

Next time you speak to a person or read a text, ask yourself whether or not you’re actually processing what’s being said or written.
