One of the most interesting Pokémon out there must be Ditto. Potentially it’s the most versatile and useful Pokémon to have as a trainer, at least in the anime- and mangaverses of the franchise (and lately, also in Pokémon Black & White onwards with its Impostor ability).
I love the concept that it can copy the DNA of other Pokémon and transform into them completely. I’ve had it as a favorite ever since the first Gen came out but he’s really been useless until lately, and I’m really stoked to get an Impostor Ditto of my own when I start playing Pokémon White 2. For now I’ll have to beat the last boss in Wario Land II and progress in Dragon Warrior II, and then I’ll get on with that game.
Here are some tidbits about Ditto, for those that are interested, from pokemondb.net.
Capable of copying an enemy’s genetic code to instantly transform itself into a duplicate of the enemy. Yellow When it spots an enemy, its body transfigures into an almost perfect copy of its opponent. Gold
It can transform into anything. When it sleeps, it changes into a stone to avoid being attacked. Silver
Its transformation ability is perfect. However, if made to laugh, it can’t maintain its disguise. Crystal When it encounters another DITTO, it will move faster than normal to duplicate that opponent exactly. Ruby
DITTO rearranges its cell structure to transform itself into other shapes. However, if it tries to transform itself into something by relying on its memory, this POKéMON manages to get details wrong. Emerald A DITTO rearranges its cell structure to transform itself. However, if it tries to change based on its memory, it will get details wrong. FireRed It can freely recombine its own cellular structure to transform into other life-forms. LeafGreen Capable of copying an opponent’s genetic code to instantly transform itself into a duplicate of the enemy. Diamond
It has the ability to reconstitute its entire cellular structure to transform into whatever it sees. Black 2
It can reconstitute its entire cellular structure to change into what it sees, but it returns to normal when it relaxes.
I mean, just look at this awesome picture! It clearly demonstrates the grandeur in Ditto’s design. It’s morphing between Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, all the Gen 1 starters- Ditto is virtually every Pokémon there is!
